Taxation of NSC

Sir,
I had purchased NSC worth Rs. 45000 (10000+10000+10000+10000+5000) few years back and I had not shown them in my ITreturns Now they had matured and now I will get 90000. Pls tell me how much tax would I have to pay on these NSC?

NSC is a interest bearing instrument ...note that in interest bearing instruments , only the interest is to be offered for tax and not the principal

Can anybody tell me if any assessee did not show his full FD or nsc interest which was accrued last year in his income tax return, whether he should take that interest income while filing return this year??

For FD, one can show income on accrual basis or on receipt basis at maturity ..if i was you , i will revise last year return to show accrued interest income ...for current year , i will show accrued interest under due normal return( using section 139(1)...But you can obviously take a safer call and ...
