The form 10 E doesn't ask for arrears breakup at all .. it is only while filling salary schedule, you are required to fill salary breakup ...here for arrears also , you are required to figure out arrears basic portion ( including increments wherever due ) for all the years where arrears were rece...

It won't create any problem ...you can add arrears to either salary / Non exempt allowances...one thing to realize is that the chargeable income from salary remains same whether you put arrears under basic or non exempt allowances .....and that is why either approach is okay ...but preferable to sho...

If you don't get any breakup from company ( which is normally the case) , you can show the whole arrears under non exempt allowances keeping 12 months basic pay under salary head ....but there is a very simple way of doing it .......Look at your form 16 for guidance ... ...Here, under point 1a de...
