Section 80 D (Tax deduction based on Health Insurance Premiums Paid), 80 DDB( (Treatment of Specified Illnesses) and section 80DD (Treatment of a dependent with disability) are the sections to look for guidance ..Check which one fits your case of medical expense <br /> Section 80 D - Towards medical treatment , you can claim nothing ..However , if it is health insurance , section 80 D provides some relief until 25,000 for yourself and 30,000 for your parents ...if it is medical checkup and can be proved to be health checkup then you can claim Deduction as shown in chart below <br /> <br /> Section 80DDB (Treatment of Specified Illnesses)<br />You can get a deduction up to Rs. 1, 40,000 (Rs. 60,000 for senior citizens and Rs. 80,000 for extremely senior citizens) for medicinal expense incurred for determined ailments. For example, cancer, chronic renal failure, Parkinson infection, etc. The complete list of such diseases is given in Rule 11DD.<br /><br />You have to attach an endorsement from specialist while filing income tax forms.<br />You can claim for self, spouse, guardians, children, and siblings. <br /> <br /> Section 80DD (Treatment of a dependent with disability)<br />You can claim the benefit up to Rs. 75,000 based on the expense incurred for nursing, training, medical treatment, preservation, and rehabilitation of a dependent with disability (Rs. 1.25 lakh for an extreme and serious disability). Reliant can be any of your parents, children, your spouse, or siblings. You need to show or submit a supporting medical certificat

I have spend on 45000 Rs on medical treatment. Can i take deduction benefit of section 80D ?

Medical treatment for what???? I am assuming that you have spend it on yourself and is towards preventive check ups ...if yes, read the following else you can safely ignore knowing that there is no deduction benefit available under 80 D for any other medical expenses pertaining to treatment ...

I am assuming that you have spend it on yourself and is towards preventive check ups ...if yes, read the following else you can safely ignore knowing that there is no deduction benefit available under 80 D for any other medical expenses pertaining to treatment <br /> Typically, section 80 D is primarily for health insurance premium (25000 ( for self OR spouse OR dependent children) and 25,000/30,000 for parents/senior parents (increased to 50,000 for senior parents in Budget 2018) . <br /> <br /> However, there is a certain benefit towards preventive health check up also now in 80 D which is however limited to 5000 Rs total ( self , spouse , dependent children OR Senior citizens ) and not individually for each person.... <br /> Again note , that the sum total of the insurance premium plus the preventive checkup expenses cannot still exceed and contained in the limits defined above <br /> . In your case however , it is not amount spend on health insurance and rather medical expenses(assuming towards preventive health check up ) ........the maximum benefit you can therefore derive is 5000 Rs under section 80 D.......

I think, Medical expenditure can be claimed for very senior citizen(age is 80 years or more) who is not insured upto Rs 30000 and in case of non senior citizen and senior citizen you can claim insurance premium which includes preventive health check upto Rs 5000... Please correct me if i am wrong..
